"Konstantine" is a song by alternative rock band Something Corporate. The song is the third track of their album Songs for Silent Movies, which was only released in Japan.

Meaning

The song is about lead singer Andrew McMahon's relationship with his ex-girlfriend Vanessa and their breakup; it has also been rumored to have been written to a girl named Krystal, due to the first letter of her name. However, Andrew has confirmed he has never dated a girl named Krystal. Vanessa was allegedly underage at the time the song was written and was alluded to as "Krystal."

Although the band has stopped touring, fans of McMahon's new band, Jack's Mannequin, still request the song to be played while the band is touring. McMahon refuses to play the song and has said in a recent interview, "If I ever play it, I’ll have to play it forever, every night. If it weren’t such a big deal for me to play Konstantine, then I probably would play it. But the truth is, as soon as I bring that song out one time, I will never be able to walk through a venue, no matter what band I’m playing with or no matter where I’m at, and not have people chant and cheer for it.”[1]

The song references Jimmy Eat World as well as lyrics from the song "For Me This Is Heaven" off the Clarity album. The reference occurs around the 6:00 point of the song when McMahon sings "It's to Jimmy Eat World and those nights in my car when the first star you see may not be a star."

In the song Success Story by Holiday Parade, the band makes reference to Konstantine and Hands Down by Dashboard Confessional.

"And the whole ride home We played "Konstantine" And I walked you to your doorstep And you kissed me in the rain, my lucky day I still spell 'konfusion' with a "K"

The song "Poetically Pathetic" by Amber Pacific also references Konstantine: "Reference to a song you love, Spell confusion with a 'K'."

On Sunday, 8/8/2010, during a show at the Great Plaza at Penn's Landing in Philadelphia, Something Corporate performed Konstantine. After the band had initially departed the stage, the crowd of more than 3,500 fans pleaded with the band for an encore. As the band walked back to the stage, many in the crowd began to chant "Konstantine". The same scene also occurred at the Kool Haus in Toronto on Saturday, 8/7/10. As McMahon sat at the piano, he prefaced the upcoming song by noting that it "has flown under the radar" for years, and that it's popularity is due solely to the fans' passion for it. For this reason, prior to playing the opening measures, McMahon called Konstantine "a song for the people".
